Proofreading — final pass before upload
Catches typos, missing words, punctuation slips, inconsistent capitalisation, dropped quotation marks. We proof inside the formatted file (Kindle EPUB or paperback PDF), not a separate Word document, so corrections land in the file that actually gets uploaded to KDP. From $49 on standard novels and short non-fiction up to 60 pages. From $99 on cookbooks and illustrated children’s books up to 100 pages. 48-hour turnaround on standard-length manuscripts.
Copyediting — grammar, style, consistency
Sentence-level corrections in your manuscript file: subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, dangling modifiers, repeated word choices, internal-fact checks against the book’s own logic. Returned as a tracked-changes DOCX plus a clean version with edits accepted. Quote-based on word count. 5–7 business days on books under 80,000 words.
Line editing — rhythm and clarity
Copyediting plus paragraph-level rewrites: tightening loose sentences, smoothing rough transitions, adjusting dialogue pacing, cutting filler that slows the read. Best for first-time authors whose draft reads stiffer than it feels. Quote-based. 7–10 business days on books under 80,000 words.
Developmental editing — structure and argument
Manuscript-level review: plot structure, character arcs, chapter ordering, missing scenes, argument gaps in non-fiction. Delivered as a written report (3–8 pages) plus margin comments in the manuscript. Quote-based on word count and complexity. 10–15 business days for the first report; revision passes are quoted separately.
Intake and delivery

Proofreading and copyediting on Word or Google Docs manuscripts. We catch typos, grammar errors, punctuation issues, awkward phrasing, and inconsistencies in spelling, tense, and character names. Edits are returned as tracked changes so you accept or reject each one. Developmental editing (story structure, plot, pacing) is handled separately on our developmental-editing page.
Editing starts at $49 for proofreading on short manuscripts. Pricing scales with word count and editing depth — copyediting (sentence-level rewriting and clarity work) costs more per word than proofreading. We send a fixed quote after reviewing a 1,000-word sample of your manuscript, so you never pay by the hour or get a surprise invoice.
Proofreading on a short book (under 30,000 words) returns in 4 to 7 days. Copyediting on a full-length novel takes 2 to 3 weeks. We confirm a firm deadline before starting and meet it. Rush turnarounds are available at a 25% surcharge when an editor’s calendar allows.
